Spray finish versus hand-painted: repairs and touch-ups over time
19 February 2026 · Materials
No finish is invulnerable at corners and edges. The question is how gracefully damage can be blended without stripping a whole door.
Keeping records
We retain colour references and system notes on file so a local decorator or our aftercare team can match sheen and tone years later. That is harder if the original specification was never written down.
Spray in the workshop
Controlled environment spraying yields uniform film build and sharp edges. Touch-up in the home cannot always replicate that factory condition, so we plan which faces are most visible and which are more forgiving.
Hand-painted schemes suit clients who expect to refresh colour or who prefer visible brush character. We discuss sheen levels because dead-flat paint marks more easily than a subtle eggshell in high-traffic zones.
Warranty and decorators
Third-party repaints may affect manufacturer warranties on doors we supplied finished. We explain that trade-off before you commission someone else to change colour so you are not caught unaware at resale.
